Statement

The work presented is a series of sculptures that reflect mental ‘places’. Relatable imagery and structures are distorted and abstracted to act upon the viewers’ emotions and set them into states of mind that are not easily expressed through speech. For example, the precarious nature of a sculpture places the viewer in the face of uncertainty, fear, and anxiety; while a transition of one material to another reflects upon change and hope. By exploring imagery that relates to feeling, the work acts as a visual compensation for the inadequacy of words.
